8 tips when flying with CBD - Updated August 2019
So, the flights are booked and you’re ready for that vacation or business trip. You’re just wondering how you go about traveling with CBD products. We’ve compiled a list of 8 great tips for new and veteran CBD users. We hope this is one less thing you have to worry about and enjoy your time in the clouds.
Tip 1: You can travel with CBD oil (legally)!
Recently the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) has updated its requirements in regards to CBD oil. CBD oil that contains no more than 0.3% THC is now legal to be carried in both on board and checked-in luggage. This means you can carry on full spectrum CBD or CBD isolates. Full spectrum CBD contains less than 0.3% THC.
Keep in mind that this is for flights within the United States only. If you are traveling internationally, please check with the destination country in regards to the laws with CBD. If the destination country does not allow CBD, make sure you finish or discard your CBD oil prior to arrival.
Tip 2: A great sleep-aid
CBD oil is a great way to get some rest while you are up in the air. If you are lucky enough to fly business or first class, then rest is not a problem. But many of us are not fortunate enough to do so. Trying to get some sleep in coach can be a nightmare. Between the crying baby, cramped quarters and turbulence, sleep is something that many people in coach cannot seem to get. This is especially true since more long haul flights are becoming common in the industry.
Tip 3: Carry less than 3.4 oz. (100ml) with your carry-on
The TSA allows you to bring on-board bottles that are less than 3.4 oz. This allows you to bring your favorite CBD oil or cream on board. You can take it when you feel you are ready for some CBD – you don’t have to take it too early prior to take off and don’t have to wait until you land. Make sure you put it in a small zip lock bag ready for inspection.
Tip 4: CBD creams are great for aches/pain while flying
For those with aches and pain, flying for an extended period of time can flare up those problematic spots. CBD creams are a great way to help with some of the aches and pains while you are up in the air. The lavatory is a great place to apply the CBD topical cream for privacy.
Tip 5: Stresses of flying
While flying is statistically safer than driving, many people are still uneasy about sitting in a metal box 30,000 feet above sea level. This is especially true when there is turbulence.CBD is a great aid to help calm those nerves.
CBD oil can also help prior to the flight. Airports are loud, busy and chaotic. Generally, people who’ve taken CBD feel more relaxed and calm. CBD doesn’t contain the compound that gets you are high, so you can stay focused and get to your gate on time without the stress. CBD oils or gummies are a great way to take the edge off.
Tip 6: Empty your vape device of CBD oil before flying
Many people are unaware of this fact, but the pressure in the cabin can cause your vape device to leak. Make sure you empty out your vape device before flying. If you can’t, we recommend you put the device in a zip lock bag. This will save you cleaning up a messy bag when you land. If your device has an on/off switch, make sure it is turned off before you pack it away.
We do not advise you to vape on the plane as this can set off smoke detectors.
Tip 7: Try CBD before you fly
If you have not taken CBD before, we do not recommend you try it while on a flight. Give yourself time (about a week) to gauge how much CBD to take and how your body feels with CBD. It’s good to know what you are getting into while you are safely on the ground and not 30,000 feet in the air and stuck in the middle row.
Tip 8: Bring some CBD oil tincture for fast results
If you are looking for the fastest results while on the plane, we recommend you take CBD tinctures. CBD gummies take longer for the body to digest and can delay the benefits of CBD.
When taking a tincture, measure out the recommended dosage and place it under your tongue. Hold it for at least 30 seconds before you swallow. We call this sublingual administration. This will cause the CBD to be absorbed faster because there are more blood vessels under your tongue, which speeds up absorption.
Generally, we recommend you take CBD after having a meal if you want to relax or get some sleep.
